Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6; What we are going to see?

noorish

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6; While the Z Fold series grabs attention for its book-like design, Samsung’s real sales star is the compact Z Flip with its clamshell style. This little powerhouse stands out as one of the most loved foldable phones, consistently outshining rivals across multiple generations.

In 2023, tech enthusiasts celebrated devices like the OnePlus Open and Google Pixel Fold, catering to power users’ dreams. However, we must mention the user preference here. I personally prefer to least open the phones, and use the external display to perform most of the tasks rather than beefing them up. Phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr+ caught our attention by offering full app experiences on external displays while concealing spacious folding panels inside. So, get yourselves ready for an even more impressive lineup of Galaxy Z Flip 6 in 2024!

Availability and Price

While the exact release date for the Z Flip 6 is still not confirmed, taking a peek at Samsung’s past product launches can give us a hint. In 2023, they surprised us with a July reveal for the Z Flip 5, just a tad earlier than their usual August timing. So, it’s pretty likely we’ll get to see the Z Flip 6 in the middle to the end of summer.

The Z Flip 5 was priced at $999 / £1049, a bit higher than its predecessor. However, it did bring an upgrade to 256GB of storage from the previous 128GB. While we anticipate Samsung aiming for a steady price this time, increased material and shipping expenses might pose challenges.

Display and Design:

Currently, there is a little information about Galaxy Z Flip 6 I have found on different official sites as well as X. However, a well-renowned display expert Ross Young claimed earlier on X that the display of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be significantly larger than Galaxy Z Flip 5. This time both the external screen as well as internal folding display will get a notable boost. The outer display this time will feature a 3.9-inch screen, which is half an inch larger than the 3.4-inch of its predecessor.

Like Galaxy Z Flip 5, the Z Flip 6 flagship will also accommodate a cover screen like a flex window, which we have experienced in multiple smartwatches. The display allows you to access most of the useable apps without flipping your phone. The purpose of this advanced display is to avoid over-flipping of your phone.

Besides, I must say there will be significant improvements in Samsung’s hinge design. While using the Z Flip 5, the most irritating thing was its noticeable crease, unlike the OnePlus V Fold and Motorola phones. Samsung has stuck to the same approach for quite a while now, and it’s high time to go for some change. Therefore, we can anticipate positive changes in the hinge design for a more seamless folding experience.

Adding dust resistance to the phone would be a great move for Samsung. However, according to a statement from Samsung’s mobile head, we won’t be seeing a dust resistance rating anytime soon.

Camera rumors:

After the release of the Samsung Z Flip 5 in July, we have gone through multiple rumors about the Z Flip 6 camera. But which one is absolute is still a mystery.

According to leaks, the phone is likely to employ pixel binning for 12.5MP images, enhancing detail and potentially capturing more light. Besides, we are expecting a secondary sensor for ultrawide shots. What remains uncertain is the addition of a third rear sensor, perhaps for telephoto capabilities. Notably, recent models like the OPPO Find N3 Flip and some Huawei flip phones boast triple camera setups, provoking Samsung to enter the competition.

We’re still uncertain about the enhancements coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s ultrawide or selfie camera. It makes sense for Samsung to consider a 12MP selfie camera upgrade, like the one in the Galaxy S23 series. However, since the launch is about a few months away for both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, nothing has been confirmed yet. We’ll have to wait for more details to surface.

The proposed 50MP main camera is good, but having a telephoto lens would be even better. While telephoto lenses are not common in foldable phones, Samsung should consider adding one. Even a 3x zoom, similar to the Galaxy S23, would enhance versatility. Despite this, credible leaks have surfaced, providing some insights into what could be coming our way. Stay tuned for more updates!

Chipset and Storage

The existing Z Flip 5 boasts the impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, considered among the finest mobile chips available. Anticipate the upcoming Z Flip 6 to feature the latest top-tier chip, possibly the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This upgrade promises even better performance for your device.

The Z Flip 5’s biggest storage is 512GB, and it’d be great if Samsung introduced a 1TB choice for the Z Flip 6. While there are no rumors yet, we’re hopeful for news on storage as the phone gets closer to reality. Let’s keep an eye out for updates!

Battery:

While the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s battery isn’t bad, there’s room for improvement. It doesn’t often last a full day on a single charge, and we hope Samsung works on this. This might mean using bigger batteries and a more efficient chipset for better performance.

While wireless top-ups are handy, it’s evident that Samsung’s 25W wired charging is lagging behind the competition. Some rivals are hitting 65W or more, and we’re not just talking about standard smartphones but also foldable models with clamshell designs.

Even if there’s no space for a bigger battery, cutting recharge time in half would be a game-changer for power users. It’d be great to see Samsung boost its fast-charging game in the upcoming foldable phones. While 25W is okay, some companies like OnePlus consistently provide much faster speeds. It would be wonderful if Samsung could match that pace.

Final thoughts:

Samsung hit many of the features I wanted in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 last year, giving us a great phone. I’m optimistic they’ll keep it up with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, set to come out in about a half year. Keep an eye out for updates in the coming months.
