iPhone 15 Pro overheating issue Apple has officially stated that the problem of iPhones 15 and iPhone 15 Pro getting too hot is caused by a mix of a bug in iOS 17 and some third-party apps.

Apple announced on Saturday that it has found a few issues causing some new iPhones to get warmer than expected. One of these issues is a bug in the iOS 17 software, which they plan to fix in an upcoming update. Apple acknowledged customer complaints about their new phones feeling warm. They explained that this warmth is more likely to happen in the initial days, especially right after setting up or restoring the device, due to increased background activity.

Apple mentioned that there’s a problem with certain recent updates to third-party apps. These updates are enhancing the workload on the system. Nevertheless, Apple is actively collaborating with app developers to find solutions, and the system will be OK soon.

Apple is about to resolve the overheating issue:

A few days after the iPhone 15 series became available, people began talking about how their new phones were getting really hot. Some folks found it uncomfortable to hold their phones, and a few even shared pictures of infrared thermometers displaying their iPhone temperatures going beyond 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Apple mentioned in a statement to CNET that they’ve pinpointed a few situations that might lead to iPhones feeling warmer than usual. In the initial days after setting up or restoring the device, there might be increased background activity causing this. Additionally, they’ve identified a bug in iOS 17 affecting some users, and they’re working on fixing it in an upcoming software update.

Certain third-party Apps are causing problems:

Apple clarified that certain third-party apps on iOS 17, such as Instagram, Asphalt 9, and Uber, are putting too much strain on the A17 Pro chip’s CPU. This is causing iPhones to heat up more than usual. Apple is currently collaborating with these third-party developers to resolve this issue. The developers behind Instagram, Uber, and Asphalt 9 by Gameloft didn’t respond to comment requests right away. We don’t know when the software update for the iOS 17 bug will be released, but Apple has assured us that the fix won’t slow down the iPhone.

Titanium has nothing to do with the iPhone 15 overheating problem:

The company based in Cupertino, California, explained that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max don’t get too hot because of their design. Instead, the new titanium shells actually help them release heat better than the older stainless steel models.

Apple also assured that this overheating problem doesn’t pose any safety or long-term performance concerns for the phones.

Ming-Chi Kuo analysis of overheating:

Renowned Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo recently suggested that the overheating issue in the iPhone 15 series may be due to the use of titanium chase. Although, we have witnessed overheating problems in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max more frequently. Nevertheless, even owners of the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which don’t have a titanium build, have encountered this issue.

Wrong USB-C power adapters may cause overheating in the iPhone 15 series.

Kuo suggested that Apple might have to lower the performance of the new iPhone 15 to handle overheating. However, Apple is disagreeing with this idea. They are currently testing iOS 17.1 in beta, and it’s designed to fix a bug that causes the iPhone to overheat without sacrificing performance.

Regarding charging, Apple has mentioned that both the 15 Pro and Pro Max models are compatible with any USB-C adapter that meets the USB-C standard, including USB Power Delivery. The iPhone is designed to limit its charging speed to a maximum of 27W. If you use a charger that’s 20W or higher, the phone might temporarily warm up a bit as a result.

According to Apple’s support page, your iPhone might feel a bit warm when you first set it up, restore it from a backup, or charge it wirelessly. I’ve noticed this happening with various iPhone models and Android phones in the past.
